Hollywood has been in a bit of a dry spell until recently. As a producer friend of mine once told me, "you picked a bad time to get into the entertainment industry." As I was acting in Bart Got a Room, the indie film I did last November, the Writers Guild of America strike had just begun. That lasted until early this year. Then, there were rumors of a Screen Actors Guild strike. I'm unsure of whether this ever happened, as I never saw any official news about it. Even though it never occurred, I've been told that a lot of films weren't going forward with production because they were just being cautious.
This may have affected the next few movies I'm doing this fall, the first being Kid Cannabis, which I announced not too long ago. It was originally scheduled for shooting in July. Then it was pushed back until September. Now I've heard that they don't know when the shoot will begin, keeping it vague and saying "Late 2008."
This has all been a bit frustrating for me. I was hoping I'd be able to get this film out of the way and move on to the other two, but now it's up in the air. As I've come to learn, this happens a lot, and not just in this way. Everything I hear, every offer I get, it's all up in the air. I have no idea where I will be in the next two months. I could be in Canada working on Kid Cannabis, I could be in LA, or I could be at home making more reenactments in my parents' basement. It's all quite chaotic.
The second film I'm involved in, I can't talk much about. It's called Paper or Plastic, and as listed on IMDb, is written by Ben Going (also known as "Boh3m3" on Youtube) and Edwin Marshall (who was my former manager. He handed me over to my current manager last year, and we've since remained "producing partners.") I also helped in the writing of the script, but not as much as Ben and Edwin. The real writing credits go to them. If I get the chance and the opportunity, I can tell you all more about this project at a later date. This film has been slated to shoot for October, but may be subject to change from what I hear. My constant worry is that Paper or Plastic will, in some way, conflict with Kid Cannabis. If it comes to that, I have to choose one over the other. Hopefully that won't happen, and it will all work out.
The third film I'm doing is scheduled to shoot for late October or early November. It is an independent film called The Bill Collector. My part isn't huge, but it'll be a fun and easy job to do (probably four days of work at the most). The best thing about this project is that it's being shot at Virginia Beach, which is in driving distance from my area.
Those are the three projects that I'm involved in. As a result of all these scheduling issues that I've mentioned, my summer has been uneventful. I've been auditioning nonstop and working at my part-time job to pay the bills. In the meantime, I've made the occasional Youtube video. I've tried doing reenactments, but I'm finding it harder to build up any sort of motivation to do so. I've been leaning more towards original material, which people seem to be responding to. Even so, I still get requests for reenactments. I'll make another one eventually... I just have to think of a good one.
I have a lot of ideas for videos or short films that I'd like to put into motion, but I don't have the resources for most of them. I've tried writing scripts to expand on these ideas, only to find it to be a lot harder than it looks. I have, however, almost finished one of these scripts that I'm excited about. If I ever get to film it, it would be my first real attempt at serious material.
That's it for this post. More to come.

Just have fun with it. That's what I have to keep telling myself when I spend about 150$ (gas, food, getting off work) to go work on set for 14 hours and get paid 125$... And I've only been paid once...the other times I worked for free...
Awesome things happen when you least expect them, as you know well. So have fun with it. You are only 21 years old, not married, no kids...throw yourself into it and if it doesn't pan out, then you have fun with something else.
Good luck, bro. I'm glad you started this blog. It makes it easier to actually "converse" with you without the pages of comments on youtube.
Thanks for the comment. This is so much easier (and more appealing to me) than comments on Youtube. It sort of filters out all the people who actually want to have a conversation with me.
Concerning the films, you're right. I should just have fun with it. I'm doing what I love, and that's what counts.
Hey Brandon! Phil Smith, fan number...I have no idea here! :-D Because of you, I am now an official Blogger member! Great to hear or in this case read about what's going on in your life.
Definitely keep up with the part time job. As I learned working here in Las Vegas, the pickins are very slim when it comes to the world of talent; be it on the air or on the screen, it's a tough world to break into. Definitely hold on to what you got.
And remember, if you ever get out here, let me know! I'd love to meet the master in person!
Lets see, questions for you....
Okay, what is one of your all time favorite movie scenes from the last 5 years?
How old were you when your first started doing impressions/movie quotes?
Do you happen to own any movie props?
About how many DVDs would you say you own?
Okay, that should do for now! :-D
Take care my friend!
Wow... you don't know how much I would love to have your worries right now! I'd love to be able to act... I mean, my real dream was to be a stage actress, not a movie actress, but still, if only... sadly, I have things that prevent me from doing so, mostly a matter of having to choose what was more important to me. This life or that life? I made my choice, and I'm sticking to it, but oh, how I would have loved to be on stage. The breth taking experience of it all... Well, if you end up doing Kid Cannabis, I hope that it's somewhere close to me in Canada, like Toronto. Not too far away... maybe I could meet you finally. I'd love that. A real glimpse at talent. Anyways, I'm done gushing on now, but I have one question for you before I leave, in case you miss it in the sea of comments that is youtube. Will you ever do Real World Problems from your Physics Book videos again or is that physics book long gone? Another, actually... Did you move out of your parents house or are you just paying the bills in the sense of contributing for the space you take up, so to speak? If you''ve answered that in a video, forgive me, for I haven't been much of a youtuber at all recently and have missed a few videos. I shall have to watch that tooth brush one very soon. Ciao.
Where exactly are you from again? I live in Richmond, VA. An obvious not too far drive to VA Beach. Always a fun place to visit! Cheers bro! You're the envy of youtubers/myspacers/facebookers and porn surfers all across the net!
It kind of sounds like you are feeling down about the lack of acting work. Brandon man, you have done an awesome job so far. I guarantee that all the waiting you are doing now is going to pay off in the end. Ever actor had a big break, and you are just waiting for yours. Man, you have the talent to go a long way, and you have a long career ahead of you.
I have watched your videos online ever since me and my old roommate were looking up youtube videos related to star trek first contact. Your Patrick Stewart impression is incredible.
Oh, never feel bad about your grocery store job. I have worked at a Harris Teeter in Boone, NC for the past 3 years of my life bagging groceries when I am not in class. It can seem like a bullshit job, especially when you realize that you know every fruit and vegetable by its 4 digit PLU number, but when that paycheck comes I realize I have enough to blow on a six pack of corona and a 4048.
4048? That's a lime!
Ugh... Next to the first generation of Pokemon, those 4-digit produce codes are the most useless bits of information I've ever acquired.
Hey, hows it going? Amazing I hope...I would like you to check out Nate's myspace page...I am his wife and I run his page...I think it would be fun to chat with you about KC!
